Technical staff at Wildlife Infometrics have created habitat supply models to forecast the availability, quality, and distribution of critical habitats for predator and prey species across western Canada. To extend the value of the habitat models, we also create population models that forecast the (demographic, numerical) response of an animal population to differing landscape management scenarios. We have built models using several platforms, including (but not limited to) Netica-based Bayesian Belief Networks, SELES, R, SpaDES, and ArcGIS.
Our ecological models are typically created in a workshop setting with species experts, First Nations, and stakeholders to ensure that all available knowledge is incorporated. This approach also encourages critical stakeholder involvement in planning.
